Common questions

What people ask before they request an audit.

If yours is not here, ask us — the answer is usually shorter than you expect.

How do you get paid?

The supplier pays us when you sign with them. You pay nothing for the audit, the recommendation, or our ongoing service. If nothing needs changing, we tell you that — there's no charge either way.

Is cellular actually legal for a fire alarm?

Yes, with the right equipment. NFPA 72 allows cellular and IP transmission paths as long as the communicator is UL 864 listed and supervises itself. That's the same listing standard as your panel. Your fire marshal can verify the listing before you sign anything, and we'd encourage it.

Will anything go down?

No. The copper stays live until the new path is installed and the monitoring company confirms signals on it. Nothing gets disconnected on a promise.

What if we do nothing?

Usually the price goes up before the line goes off. Carriers raise copper rates rather than announce shutoffs — $60 lines becoming $300 lines, and in documented cases far worse. Then the line does go away, and you're scheduling an install in a queue with everyone else on your street.

Are you tied to one carrier?

No. We work across 200+ providers through Telarus and we're paid the same regardless of which one you pick. That's the whole reason to use a broker instead of taking the call from your incumbent.

How long does this take?

About fifteen minutes of your time. Send one bill per property, answer a few questions, and we come back with a full line-by-line review.

What if my lines are fine?

Then that's the answer, and now you know — with a written inventory of what's in your buildings that you didn't have before. Worst case you spent fifteen minutes finding out you're in good shape.

Still deciding?

You do not need to send a bill to find out whether this reaches your buildings. The copper page explains what is being retired, and the watch lists the dates by state.
